Indian forces kill the last terrorist at Mumbai

I think this is a fascinating moment for the whole country. They have made everyone feel proud of their country. Atleast 200 were killed which includes several commandos and around 7 foreigners.

Indian External and Internal Affairs ministry were very clear that the loss should be as minimal as possible. This is the first time that India has experienced the Street Terrorism. India has paid homage to most of those in this world. What Dr.Manmohan Singh is going to do now. Not even an year to go for the Lok Sabha Elections, it would be interesting to see How this Dr reacts to this attack !

How can we improve from within inside

Green House effect can also be controlled from within our home. We can grow some plants within our home, which gives us a greenish look and Oxygen.

Not all plants may survive this shift from outdoors to indoors, but these tips ( the next post ) will help. Different people have different degrees of success with bringing inside various plants. Some will do exceptionally well, while others will long for the outdoors. Here are some of the plants that are usually fairly easy to transfer, back and forth, from indoors and outdoors:

Some tips to reduce Pollution

As " green" societies campaign against pollution, people are being made more aware of the harm they are doing. Fortunately, there is much that can be done to reduce the rate at which we are polluting the Earth, but it must be done now. Governments can pass laws to curb some of the worst polluting activities: contaminated habitats can be cleaned up; we can choose to buy products that are less polluting and we can switch to less polluting life styles. Using public transport and cycling help polluting life styles.

Organic farming: Some farmers have returned to organic methods of cultivating the crops, which do not reply on the heavy use of chemicals pesticides and fertilizers.

Cleaner Cities: Promote unleaded petrol to avoid the release of lead from car exhaust fumes.

Crude Oil Prices below 50$-Watch out !

Oil prices sank under $50 a barrel in London on Thursday reaching the lowest levels for three-and-ahalf years, as the market was plagued by weak energy demand. Brent North Sea crude for delivery in January tumbled to $48.54 a barrel, last reached in May 2005.

IT guys - An Important news for you

On Wall Street, the prices of shares in technology companies have been bouncing around even more than most other industry sectors. Tech stocks were battered on Tuesday, driving down the overall market.

The picture is mixed and uncertain. But based on the early readings before quarterly earnings begin in earnest soon. IBM, surrounded by rumours of weakness, announced its third-quarter results in advance last week, beating analysts’ estimates. Oracle, too, says it is holding up fine. But SAP, the enterprise software maker, and Rackable Systems, which supplies server computers to big Web companies and many smaller businesses, recently lowered guidance for the quarter.

Gartner this week presented its information technology spending projections for 2009, and it sees the souring economy taking a toll. Its worst-case projection (increasingly likely, it seems) places worldwide growth in technology spending at 2.3 per cent for 2009, down from 5.8 per cent previously. Stronger Asian markets like China are propping up the overall numbers. In North America, Gartner sees spending growth at half a per cent in 2009, down from 5.3 per cent previously.

In an interview, Peter Sondergaard, Gartner’s senior vice president for global research, explained that information technology was now so integral a part of business operations that spending was no longer going to be much higher or lower than the broad economy. “This isn’t like the 2000 to 2002 period, when much of the world lost confidence in IT,” he said.

Horizons will shorten, and projects that can wait likely will. “CIOs have to learn to think like CFOs,” he explained, using the common shorthand for chief information officers and chief financial officers. At a conference this week, Mr. Sondergaard offered a “top 10” list for squeezing more out of tight budget dollars. In the spirit of the new austerity, we’ll just give you the top five (the bottom five don’t add much): 1. Reduce headcount and freeze hiring. 2. Curtail data center expansions and “virtualise” servers, putting more software loads on fewer machines. 3. Renegotiate with technology and services suppliers. 4. Consolidate functions and systems to achieve greater economies of scale. 5. Outsource commodity services. It’s enough to warm any CFO’s heart.

The Eye Armour Story

You know, I used to envy people wearing glasses, and why? Because, when they ride a bike (esp in OMR) they can protect their eyes from the sand and dust. I can’t, because I don’t wear one. So I decided to buy cheap driving glasses and I even had one for a couple of years. A few of ‘em seen me with it, jeered me, but hey! it is effective.. or, it was.. until the day I broke it accidentally. I was mad at myself to have lost my eye armour. I couldn’t drive for 15 minutes without it and I used to keep to small streets and lanes(to protect my eyes from the dust) whenever I wanted to go somewhere.

My dad asked me, “why not wear a helmet? It will protect your eyes as well as your head”. Well I have one and I don’t want to wear it simply because it is so huge to carry it around.. Right, I went to the opticals near my house, where I bought the first one 2 years back. The rate was 60/- back then. The same store, I went and browsed through all the shades there, but to my shock, the price was 250-600 on the price tag! What the ?!! I immediately left the place. Today, I had small work in guindy and while I was on my way, I saw a road side store with cheap goggles. yay! I went and picked one for the same 60/- and tried it out. Well, what do you know? It covered my eyes fully and even better than the previous one. Now that is not a bad deal at all!

Memristor based Memory Introduced by HP Inc.

HP has announced, there scientists are developing an advanced technology by successful engineering control over functioning device.

MEMRISTORS would be a whole new fundamental building block for the purpose of electrical engineering.MEMRISTOR has the ability of remembering the data stored in it without the source of power. One of the major potential application is the development of new model computer RAMS and solid state drives which can retain data even after the computer is switched off, which allows instantaneous booting and resilience to power failures.
Another potential application is the FACE recognition technology.HP scientists are yet to turn it into new designs for integrated circuits. This technology will take more years before it becomes ready to be launched in the mass market.

No Merging !

The Jet Airways chairman, Mr Naresh Goyal and the Kingfisher Airlines chairman, Mr Vijay Mallya, on Wednesday ruled out merger of India’s top two private airlines.

The two airlines account for about 60 per cent of the market share.

“There is no equity swap. Our understanding is for purely commercial alliance,” Dr Mallya said.

Speaking to the media, Mr Goyal said that the alliance is not a marriage of convenience and the consolidation in the aviation industry is inevitable.

He said, “It (alliance) had happened in the US and the Europe and it has happened for the first time in India.” He said that the rationalisation of routes, capacity and costs are essential for survival and that market share was not the answer to profitability.

“There are instances where fighting for market share made the companies go bankrupt in the US,” he added.

Mr Goyal said that the break-even point for the aviation sector is at 90 per cent capacity utilisation, while the companies are operating between 60-70 per cent.

“On top of this, international airlines are dumping capacity in India, lowering their prices knowing we cannot match the competition…. therefore we have to work together,” he said.

On the lay-off of 850 Jet Airways’ employees, Mr Goyal said those employees were on probation and the company has just not extended the probation.

He said even Air-India can join the alliance, if wants.

Later in the day, the Union civil aviation minister, Mr Praful Patel, said the government does not have any details of the deal. “In absence of such details, we cannot comment on it,” he added.

However, he said the government will not have any problem, if the alliance is within the rules and regulations of the aviation ministry.

Excellent Time for Retail Investors

Though the mar kets have been volatile for several months, 99 per cent retail investors have stayed invested continuously in the systematic investment plans (SIPs) which has given hope to the industry which has been facing redemptions by corporates. Mr A. P. Kurian, chairman of Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) said this indicates the maturity on the part of the investors.

Till March 2005 only 1.79 lakh SIPs were sold to the retail investors and that number has crossed the 40 lakh mark in September 2008, he added. Mr Sudeep Bandopadhyay, CEO of Reliance Money said, “Though the capital market has dipped by about 50 per cent in the last nine months, we have experienced that the investors have not become panicky and prefer to keep on purchasing the units on a monthly basis.” He said, “ The SIPs prove to be beneficial in a volatile market as you get more units when the market is at the bottom level, and it seems that retail investors have understood this fact.” He also said, “Reliance Money has sold about four lakh SIPs of different mutual funds in the last one year. When big-ticket investors including the corporates prefer redemption these small-ticket SIPs did not put that pressure.” He added, “Normally SIPs are planned with a horizon of three to five years and investors are psychologically prepared to face the ups and downs. That could be the reason why this segment did not see panic among the investors.”

Britishers unhealthy because of Tea Drinking Habit

Damon Albarn thinks British people are unhealthy because of their tea drinking. The Blur frontman, who made several visits to China while researching his opera Monkey: Journey to the West, believes Western people could learn a lot by adopting Eastern habits. He told Bang Showbiz, “The thing I like most about Chinese culture is how different it is to ours. I love the food and I especially love the tea, I’m down with their teas. I think if we drank tea without milk or sugar like they do, we’d all be a lot healthier and more lively.” However, Damon admits he fears Chinese traditions risk being lost because of Western influences. He added, “There are great things from China. They’re incredibly hard working. If you drink green tea every day, you’re healthier, no question. Their diet is traditionally much better balanced. Unfortunately, that will change with Western influence.”

New theme changed

I’ve tried few themes and planning out to try one by one in the days to come. This is ‘Bash’ theme, the Unix terminal screen. Very simple and minimal with the courier new font. Now I do plan to change that, so don’t complain!

Stay tuned to see a variety of themes, including our good old DOS prompt, Mac and iPhone themes.

The bash theme didn’t work out well and got bad feedback. So changing it to CMD Prompt theme

Its India at Common Wealth Youth Games

India got off to a blazing start at the third Commonwealth Youth Games on Monday with shooters and weightlifters fetching three gold and one silver medal which took the hosts to the top of the medal standings.

India began their quest of glory at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex at Balewadi here in a rather bizarre fashion with just two competitors — India’s Ankush Bhardwaj and Murray Middletonand of Falkland Island — in the 50m pistol category, offering only the gold medal.

And in the straight contest between the duo, Bhardwaj shot to glory to open India’s account — with a yellow metal.

The medal distribution ceremony following the competition also witnessed an unusual picture of only the champion standing on the podium as the rules say the winner takes gold while the second finisher gets certificate of participation.

As per the Commonwealth Games Federation rules only one shooter per country per event was allowed and even the hosts India are barred from fielding two shooters. Shooting earned India its second gold with local girl Rahi Sarnobat emerging winner in the 25m pistol category.

Weightlifter Diksha Gaikwad in the 48kg category earned India the third gold medal as the Maharashtra girl shattered six CYG records enroute the top position.

The hosts wrapped up their day’s proceedings with Shiv Shankar Singh bagging a silver medal in weightlifting (56kg category). India are followed by Fiji and Singapore on joint second spot with one gold medal apiece and Canada, with two silver medals, were on third spot, while Malaysia are placed fourth with one silver and one bronze medal. But Bhardwaj, who won his first international medal, was in no mood to spoil his celebration.

“A win is a win. I am happy about it. It’s not my duty to see the number of participants in the Games. My duty was to perform and I think I have done that,” he said after the match.

“Though I am not happy with my scores, I will try to improve it in future. This is my step forward towards the 2010 Commonwealth Games,” said Bhardwaj who finished with 509 points.

Amrawati weightlifter Diksha lifted a record overall weight of 140 kg, which included the Games’ best snatch lift of 64kg, to finish on top. Jessica Ruel of Canada took silver with an overall lift of 138 kg, while Nauru’s Utako Alikli settled for bronze with 128 kg.

Earlier, Diksha started with a failed first attempt to hoist 62kg in the snatch, but she did not lose heart and lifted the weight to better the previous Games’ record of 56kg.

She then raised the bar by two more kilograms and successfully cleared 64 kg, erasing the mark she had set some minutes back. Diksha also eclipsed the previous mark of 70kg in both clean and jerk category but could not hold it on for long. She lifted 73 and 76 kgs in her first two attempts but Jessica’s 77kg dashed Diksha’s record spree.

Its Honda after Tata

The Indian small car market will see yet another player entering the domain with the Japanese car manufacturer Honda designing a car for domestic consumption, the automobile maker said on Wednesday.

“We are designing a small car which will be launched a few years down the line,”said Mr Jnaneswar Sen vice-president (marketing) Honda Siel Cars India, the Indian subsidiary of the Japanese company said here. The car would be placed in the B, B+ segment, Mr Sen said.

The company would launch a premium hatch back model by 2009 summer. The model has been named ‘Jazz’ and would have a engine capacity of 1200 cc, he said.

Launching the new Honda City, Mr Sen said that the company’s second production base was coming up at Rajashthan and would be ready by the end of 2009.

Excellent English ! Superb mentality !

I am writing this post as a F.I.R that is,i am writing what I witnessed at a shop.I was waiting in the queue to pay for the soft drinks i had bought when a little girl, barely 4 years old spoke to her father.
“Please,if you are my father, buy me this drink”,pointing to Pepsi and then “Please,I beg of you,buy me that drink”.My god.Speaking like this at a tender age of 4 or 5!Amazing.
And there are some who think that they know to speak proper English, what we call “peter” but au contraire they know only local English(Butler English). If a small child can speak in that way,why cant we all.All it needs is practicing.

Wrist Watch with features of Mobile Phone

In this age of rapid technological change, there is one ubiquitous item that seems not to have been touched by modern technology:the humble wrist watch.Of course,we have had a electronic watches and quartz watches in the past decade or two,but the change has not created an impact on our lifestyle.

It is not as if watches with fancy features had not been made.SEIKO had marketed a wrist watch with a television as early as in 1980’s.They did not sell well as they were clumpsy and in-elegant.But now with processors becoming more powerful and shrinking everyday, watchmakers are able to put in a lot of features into the wrist watch.

High-tech watches now come equiped with video screens,MP3 or MP4 players,PDA’s,USB ports and wireless data transmitters. Some of these watches are being manufactured by EPOQ MULTIMEDIA,a US manufacturer of multimedia products has recently launched a WINDOWS WRISTWATCH-MOBILE PHONE.

In the future, how the wristwatch fares would depend on consumer tastes.Would someone want to discard a mobile phone and use a wristwatch instead? Converting the wristwatch into a computer is a possibility that some IT labs are looking at.

We could then connect the wristwatch to a monitor anywhere and use a virtual keyboard. But for this to work, the wristwatch has to evolve much more, while also attracting larger phone and computer manufacturers.
