Phoenix Details
We all know that the Phoenix spacecraft and about its successful launch from the Earth and its perfect landing on the Mars! And also about the successful data transferred..the details of the soil, pictures and also the presence of water and ice caps…but what about the parts??? Do you know how it was made?
It was made from junk, scraps, left overs and what not! Everything right from the radar, which helped tell the probe the whereabouts to land, to the rocket( thrust or something to rapidly slow down the speed probe) and even the parachute!!! NASA had came through!!!They were not funded for that mission…They used every material, second hand or were from the junk! The radar was from a F15(or a F16). After integrating the radar, they test dropped it and results were bad! They made modifications…then dropped it again and were more successful than the previous attempt. The first parachute they used for the test probe was too..what to say…weak to support that weight and tore as soon as it was released! The jets used (12) on the probe were old and not so efficient…yet, somehow, they overcame all these things and made a successful landing! Hats off to you guys at NASA!
When I was watching this show in Discovery Channel, I was flabbergasted…they did not have funds, used junk and were extremely successful!! Great!!
